WASHINGTON – Representative Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) announced that she has been named to serve on the House Agriculture Committee in the 118th Congress.
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) has been appointed to serve on the powerful House Committee on Oversight and Accountability (Oversight Committee). The Oversight Committee is the principle investigatory committee in the House of Representatives charged with increasing transparency in the federal government and holding bad actors accountable.
WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) issued the below statement following the brutal murder of Tyre Nichols:
“I am outraged, yet again, because a Black man has been murdered at the hands of those that have sworn to ‘protect and serve.’ Tyre Nichols is gone and nothing we can do as politicians can bring him back nor heal the pain felt by his family, friends, and community. So, the questions are: what is it that we can do and what is it that we have the courage to do?
Crockett said she came to voting rights accidentally. When she was a student at the University of Houston Law Center, she was late to sign up for a seminar class “so all of the ‘good ones’ were gone”, she said. She ended up in an election law seminar, and remembers thinking: “What am I going to do with this?”
“Little did I know,” she said. “I always tell people that God had this amazing, beautiful plan that I was definitely not clued in on.”

“It is the honor of a lifetime to be sworn in to the 118th Congress and to continue Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s legacy through determined and thoughtful leadership for Texas’ 30th Congressional District. In Washington, I will speak truth to power and will fight for an agenda that will bring justice, fairness and equity to North Texas.
A pivotal experience involving a 17-year-old whose probation was revoked propelled her into politics.
"He was charged with burglary of a building for stealing not even $20 worth of candy out of the concession stand is high school and ended up in prison for two years on revocation," Crockett said during a recent interview with the Gazette as she was preparing to travel to D.C. for orientation for new House members.
“I am truly humbled by the confidence that my colleagues have placed in me,” Crockett told The Dallas Morning News in a prepared statement. “While I am focused on having a successful transition, I look forward to using this position in leadership to advocate for this historic class of new members and ensuring that Texas priorities are prioritized.”
