Appropriations Request
GENERAL OVERVIEW ON APPROPRIATIONS
The annual appropriations process is a tool that Congress uses to invest in policies and programs that help our communities. Submitting your appropriations requests provides another opportunity for Congress to hear directly from you regarding how our federal funding should be prioritized and spent. There are three types of requests made during the appropriations process.
- Programmatic requests: Requests by which Members may request specific funding levels for agencies and programs funded in the twelve appropriations bills.
- Language requests: Requests by which Members may request bill language or report language directing or encouraging specific actions by federal agencies.
- Community Project Funding requests: Requests by which Members may request funding for specific projects in their communities, so long as the projects have a federal nexus and meet other requirements established by federal law, House Rules, and the Committee to ensure only high-quality projects are requested and funded.
