Crockett Address House GOP Attempt to Distract the American People with Vote on a Resolution to Denounce Socialism

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) issued the following statement after voting ‘present’ on H.Con.Res. 9 – “Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism”:

“I voted ‘present,’ on the House Resolution to denounce the horrors of socialism, a non-issue that the GOP has concocted for the sake of more political theater. Regardless of the work my Democratic colleagues and I accomplish, regardless of how we vote on this resolution, Republicans will continue to mislead the American people and incorrectly criticize us for being ‘socialists,’ instead of doing their jobs.

“Yet again, House Republicans are using their power in this Congress to distract, deflect, and ignore the real-life issues that the American people sent us to Washington to combat. While the people of Texas’ 30th Congressional District are concerned about the status of their Medicare and SNAP benefits; the state of their civil and reproductive rights; and have fears about inflation and the economy; House Republicans are creating unnecessary chaos.

“House Republicans are spreading a false, bad-faith narrative in attempt smear our agenda and crudely conflate Western European-style social democracy with anti-democratic, totalitarian regimes of Stalin and Kim Jong Il. My House Democratic colleagues and I will not dignify this deeply unserious and blatantly political effort because we came here with an agenda focused on the betterment of the American people. Sadly, I can’t say the same for my colleagues across the aisle."
