Representative Crockett Issues Statement on Department of Homeland Security’s Dallas ICE Office Deporting Nearly 200 Individuals to El Salvador Without Due Process
WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) issued the following statement on the recent actions by the Trump Department of Homeland Security’s Dallas ICE office effectuating the removal of roughly 200 individuals to El Salvador without having been given due process.
“Today, nearly 200 people—many without formal removal orders—are being illegally deported to El Salvador from an airport in Dallas, under the so-called Alien Enemies Act. Many of these people don't understand the paperwork they are being forced to sign, as it is in English, and they received less than 24 hours’ notice."
"Let me be clear: This is not just cruel – it is lawless. I refuse to stay quiet while families are being torn apart, and lives are being put at risk."
"Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father, was unlawfully deported and has not been returned despite the Supreme Court ordering the Trump Administration to do just that. Now this administration is trying to sneak out another plane full of people. I won’t let it slide."
"Under the constitution, everyone—including immigrants—is entitled to due process. Our legal system and individual rights are not something you pick and choose only when you want to benefit from it. The right to notice, the right to defend oneself, the right to challenge the government in court—all of these rights have been ignored. Make no mistake—these actions destroy every fundamental principle of our rule of law and jeopardize our democracy as a whole."
"I am demanding ICE Director Todd Lyons and Secretary Kristi Noem halt these deportations and allow these individuals to receive the justice they are entitled to under our legal system. I am also calling on my colleagues: speak up. These unlawful removals must be stopped before this flight takes off.”
