Rep. Crockett Visits Dilley Detention Center, Demands Release of 5-Year-Old Liam Ramos
SAN ANTONIO, TX — Today, Congresswoman Crockett, along with Representatives Joaquin Castro and Greg Casar visited the Dilley Detention Center to conduct oversight and demand the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to immediately release Liam Adrian Conejo Ramos, a 5-year-old detained at the Dilley Detention Facility in Texas, and to safely reunite him with his family in Minneapolis.
“At five years old, Liam should be thinking about snack time, and which toys he’ll play with after preschool, not sitting in a detention center after ICE used him as bait at his own front door,” said Rep. Crockett. “I went to the Dilley Detention Center today because this administration wants the cruelty hidden and the accountability avoided. But let me be clear: that won’t happen. Not on my watch. There was no justification for detaining a preschooler. None. This is not public safety. It is weaponization and abuse of power. Liam and his father must be released immediately.”
On January 20, Liam was taken by federal agents alongside his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Ramos, as he returned home from preschool in Minnesota. After detaining his father, ICE agents directed Liam to knock on the door of his home to check for others inside, using him as bait. He is now the fourth child from his Minneapolis school district taken by federal agents.
Liam and his family entered the United States legally through the CBP One process and applied for asylum in 2024. Despite having active and pending immigration court cases and fully complying with court obligations, they remain detained at Dilley, the only family detention center in the United States.
