Rep. Crockett Joins Democrats to Demand Trump Administration Release Withheld SNAP and WIC Funds

November 7, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) joined Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) and fellow Democrats in introducing the “Keep SNAP and WIC Funded Act of 2025”, legislation that would stop the Trump administration from illegally withholding funds from food assistance programs that millions of families rely on.

Right now, roughly 42 million Americans—including over 3.5 million Texans—are going without their November SNAP benefits because of this administration’s deliberate refusal to release already-approved funding. Another 6.7 million mothers, infants, and children risk losing access to WIC, which provides critical nutrition support for growing families.

“No president should be able to hold hungry families hostage because they want to play political games,” said Rep. Crockett. “In Texas, we’re talking about parents skipping meals so their kids can eat and seniors rationing groceries because their benefits haven’t come in. It’s shameful, and it’s preventable. The Trump administration’s cruelty knows no bounds. It’s one thing to spar with your political opponents—but starving children, seniors, and families to make a point? That’s negligence. I’m proud to join Congresswoman Hayes in prohibiting this administration from playing politics with people’s lives by requiring them to release the funds now.”

The Keep SNAP and WIC Funded Act would:

  • Require USDA to immediately release billions in available funds to sustain SNAP and WIC through the rest of the fiscal year.
  • Ensure states are reimbursed for covering benefits during the shutdown.
