Crockett to Vote No on Jordan for Speaker
WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) released the following statement on her intention to vote against Congressman Jim Jordan (OH-4) for Speaker of the House.
“In this moment of international crisis, House Republicans have advanced a candidate for Speaker of the House, Congressman Jim Jordan, who has openly championed overturning the 2020 election and fanned the flames of insurrection that killed five people and undermined faith in our democracy at home and abroad. Jim Jordan is professionally and morally unqualified and unfit for the Speakership. Let me count the ways:
- Congressman Jim Jordan has never passed a single bill in his 16 years in Congress—including four years where Republicans held both Chambers of Congress.
- Congressman Jim Jordan has never voted to pass a Farm Bill in his 16 years in Congress—if he fails to do so this year, he would jeopardize our entire food supply, including thousands of farmers and ranchers and millions of American families who receive SNAP assistance.
- Congressman Jim Jordan has weaponized his role as Chair of the Judiciary Committee to bully and intimidate the Justice Department into ending the investigations of former President Trump as well as undermine President Biden by pushing baseless impeachment inquires forward.
"And, perhaps the most troubling:
- Congressman Jim Jordan refuses to cooperate in the investigation into numerous allegations related to his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse during his coaching career at Ohio State University.
"Following Democrats voting nearly unanimously to pass a Continuing Resolution on government funding to bail out Republican leadership and avoid a catastrophic shutdown, it’s clear that Republicans cannot govern without Democratic help. Electing a hyper-partisan Freedom Caucus member with no policy credentials to the Speakership of the House will only push this body into further chaos and gridlock. The only way forward is with a bipartisan coalition that brings Democrats and moderate Republicans together to guide our country through this dangerous moment – and Jim Jordan is the wrong man for the job.
"For these reasons, I’m voting NO on Jim Jordan."
