Crockett Statement on District Court Ruling Requiring the Trump Administration to Rehire Federal Employees
WASHINGTON — Today, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Democratic Vice Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement after a U.S. District Court judge ordered multiple government agencies (Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Department of Interior, Department of Treasury, and the Department of Veterans Affairs) to immediately re-hire federal employees and workers who were unlawfully fired by Elon Musk and DOGE.
“Today’s decision proves what we have known since day one—that these disgraceful and unjustified mass layoffs of federal employee by Elon and Trump are illegal. If there is to be any respect for our institutions of government and constitutional separation of powers, then it is imperative that the Elon and Trump immediately act to execute the court’s decision and reinstate all the federal employees whom they unlawfully terminated.”
“Federal employees are not numbers on a spreadsheet—they are human beings supporting their families and public servants who are dedicated to improving and protecting the lives of the American people. Over the last two months, this administration has jeopardized the health and safety of the country by firing employees who did nothing wrong. Whether it was terminating federal employees addressing infectious disease control, firing public servants working on containing and addressing bird flu, or firing agency employees who oversee and control our nuclear stockpile, Elon and DOGE have acted with reckless and illegal disregard for our country and constituents all to save a penny to justify tax cuts for corporations and billionaires.”
“As Democratic Vice Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, I remain steadfast in fighting for accountability and exercising my constitutional duty of oversight of this rogue Administration and its continued baseless attacks on our federal servants. We must continue to hold power to account, and I am dedicated to working with my Democratic colleagues to achieve just that.”
