Crockett Secures $510,000 For Glenn Heights Emergency Warning System in Second Package of Government Funding for FY2024

March 22, 2024

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) secured $510,000 in Community Project Funding for the City of Glenn Heights in the second package of the FY 2024 appropriations bills. The appropriation bills contained in this second package include the Defense; Financial Services and General Government; Homeland Security; Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; Legislative Branch; and State and Foreign Operations. H.Res.1102, The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, will fund the six remaining necessary appropriations bills until the end of the FY 2024 (September 30, 2024). This Community Project Funding was requested by the City of Glenn Heights to fund their Emergency Warning System Replacement Project.

“Nine years ago, the City of Glenn Heights was devastated by a tornado outbreak that destroyed over 200 homes in the city and left nine dead across North Texas. Experts agreed that without the city's emergency warning system, the damage and death toll in Glenn Heights would have been far worse," Rep. Crockett said. “Nine years later, Tarrant and Dallas Counties are ranked 15th and 16th in the list of most vulnerable counties to tornado damage in 2024. The aging emergency warning system that saved lives in Glenn Heights in 2015 is in need of replacement before tornado season is upon us once again. Despite months of Republican can-kicking, I'm excited to have secured this funding to protect the people of Glenn Heights before it's too late."

House Democrats were successful in removing harmful extreme House Republican policies from these bills that attempted to make abortion illegal everywhere, slash efforts to fight climate change, and threaten our national security. Instead, this final bipartisan FY 24 appropriation package will help keep our communities safe, fight inflation, and move America forward. Taken together, the funding for Texas’s 30th District and the funding increases for critical government programs will continue to grow our local economies and support our communities.

This legislation is expected to be signed into law by President Biden later this week. A detailed summary of the bill is available here.
