Will Use Spot on Powerful Panel to Deliver for North Texas Families
WASHINGTON – Representative Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) announced that she has been named to serve on the House Agriculture Committee in the 118th Congress.
“It is an honor to serve on the House Agriculture Committee. I am excited to get to work using this position to help deliver for the people of Texas’ 30th Congressional District under the leadership of Ranking Member David Scott,” said Rep. Crockett. “Alongside my fellow House Democrats, I am focused on protecting our farmers, fighting for a strong food supply for the American people and protecting our social services like SNAP, through the passage of the Farm Bill.
“I am proud to welcome Jasmine Crockett as a new Member of the House Committee on Agriculture,” said Ranking Member David Scott. “Congresswoman Crockett has made clear her commitment to strengthening our food and agriculture systems, with a particular emphasis on SNAP benefits, food supply related issues, and all things related to the reauthorization of the farm bill. Her perspective will be a valuable addition to the 2023 Farm Bill process.
“This is a huge moment for North Texas to have such a seasoned consensus builder who knows how to reach across the aisle and solve tough challenges,” said Dr. Jared Williams, Fort Worth City Councilmember. “Our families across North Texas are facing impossible choices between food and other basic necessities. I’m confident that Congresswoman Crockett will be able to deliver solutions that support our Texas farmers and ranchers, while providing critical access to nutrition for Texans facing hunger.
The House Committee on Agriculture oversees legislative jurisdiction of all federal agriculture policy, including food, rural development, and forestry, and has oversight of federal agencies, like the USDA. The Committee can recommend funding appropriations for social services, as well as government agencies and special programs.
