Crockett Applauds Selection of Dallas Pegasus Park as Hub-2 Site Location for Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H)
WASHINGTON — Today, the Biden Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services announced that the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) has selected Dallas Pegasus Park in Texas' 30th Congressional District to serve as ARPA-H’s headquarters for its 2nd regional site, bringing major medical research and services to the region.
In March 2023, ARPA-H announced its plan to create sites in three geographic locations across the United States through the pursuit of a “hub-and-spoke strategy,” to form the foundation of a nationwide health network to advance ARPA-H’s mission. The primary goals of ARPA-H are to improve health outcomes for all people, enhance novel clinical trial capabilities, serve broad and diverse patient populations, while capturing robust datasets, advancing human-centered design support, and provide state of the art research to the country and world at large.
In May 2023, Congresswoman Crockett led a Texas delegation letter alongside Chairwoman Kay Granger of Texas' 12th Congressional District advocating that the Biden Administration select Pegasus Park to serve as the ARPA-H hub site location.
Today’s announcement reiterates that this location will work to provide a proactive approach towards enhancing clinical trials, reaching representative patient populations, and capturing outcomes data for future research.
"ARPANET-H is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and innovation in health care. With its vast array of cutting-edge health capabilities, this dynamic nationwide network embodies our unwavering mission to propel forward health outcomes in every corner of the country – and beyond," said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.
“By using a hub-and-spoke model, we’re creating efficiencies that we could not otherwise achieve, including reaching patients, providers, and other stakeholders quickly,” said ARPA-H Director Renee Wegrzyn, Ph.D. “With a nod to the history of DARPA’s original ARPANET that eventually became the internet, we are establishing the foundation for an ambitious 50 state network to support health innovation across the entire Nation.”
“Pegasus Park is uniquely equipped to support ARPA-H’s success, as it currently is located within the medical district alongside first-class hospitals and entities dedicated in advancing science and technology, and producing improved health outcomes and social impacts,” said Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30). “This announcement of critical investment comes at a critical time when Texas is experiencing troubling increases in cases of Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, maternal mortality, diabetes, and other physical and mental health challenges. I am grateful to all the local and state stakeholders who worked with our office in advocating for ARPA-H to come to Pegasus Park. This site will revolutionize detection, diagnosis, mitigation, prevention, treatment, and curing of serious medical diseases and conditions through innovative health technologies and research. I am confident that Pegasus Park and its coalition of spoke facilities will not only bring world-class doctors, researchers, physicians, and healthcare to those most in need in TX-30 and the region at large, but we will also create long-lasting developments addressing global health risks worldwide.”
