Congresswoman Crockett Issues Statement Honoring Rep. Connolly's Oversight Leadership
WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Vice Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to Congressman Gerry Connolly’s announcement that he will not seek re-election and will step down as Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee as he undergoes treatment for cancer.
"I want to thank Congressman Connolly for his years of steadfast leadership on the House Oversight Committee and in Congress. From holding the powerful accountable to defending the truth when it mattered most, Congressman Connolly has been a relentless advocate for an efficient and effective federal government free from abuse and corruption."
"As the Ranking Member of the Committee, he has worked tirelessly to protect and defend the rule of law and demand full transparency and accountability amid unprecedented attempts to dismantle the federal government. From launching investigations into the mishandling of classified information to defending the federal workforce from partisan attacks, the country is safer, and the government is more accountable because of his leadership."
"It has been an absolute honor to serve alongside him—and more than that, to learn from him. As he now steps back to focus on his health, I want him to know that we’re lifting him in prayer and sending him strength, healing, and peace."
"We’ll carry the torch forward, but Congressman Connolly’s impact will always be felt."
