A pivotal experience involving a 17-year-old whose probation was revoked propelled her into politics.

"He was charged with burglary of a building for stealing not even $20 worth of candy out of the concession stand is high school and ended up in prison for two years on revocation," Crockett said during a recent interview with the Gazette as she was preparing to travel to D.C. for orientation for new House members.

"He didn't have a new criminal offense that he committed, and I was just like, 'This can't be real life that we're sending 17-year-olds to prison for something like this.'"
