Crockett Statement Responding to Escalating Attacks by Hamas on Civilians

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), issued the following statement regarding atrocities committed by Hamas against civilians, including new and horrific accounts of murdered children and infants.

“This weekend, I conveyed my prayers and steadfast support for the people of Israel and the Jewish community. As new reports continue to come in, I remain horrified by the atrocities being committed against Israeli civilians by the Hamas terrorist group. There is no moral justification for the heinous acts that have surfaced in the past 72 hours: entire families taken hostage, women raped and humiliated in the streets, infants murdered in acts of cruelty that defy comprehension. We cannot look away from what is happening, and we cannot equivocate in our support for our allies in Israel as they work to free their hostages and protect their people.

“To be clear: directly targeting civilians is a war crime. It is civilians, Israeli and Palestinian, that are and will continue to be caught in this crossfire of this rapidly escalating violence. The only groups who benefit are Hamas and its backers and allies in Tehran and Moscow.

“Now more than ever, we need clear-eyed leadership in Congress to erect a united front against the enemies of democracy and humanity. In the absence of a Speaker, I will continue to work with Minority Leader Jeffries and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help end the murders of civilians, get Americans home safely, and find a peaceful resolution to this crisis as soon as possible.”
