Crockett Responds to Texas-based Federal Judge Ruling Against DACA Program
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) issued the following response to Texas-based U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen's ruling against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“Once again, an activist judge in my state of Texas has decided to legislate from the bench – this time, not on abortion rights, but on the rights of DACA recipients to live and work in the only country they have ever known as home, the United States. While this decision is not surprising, it is yet another clear sign that Congress cannot continue to kick the can down the road on comprehensive immigration reform.
“Our immigration system is broken, and as a result, Dreamers are living in limbo. While this case alone will not change the status or protections for DACA recipients, future decisions may have a devastating impact on the millions of people who have been waiting on a path to citizenship for their whole lives. It is time for Congress to come together and pass bipartisan immigration reform legislation that assures permanent protections for Dreamers, including a path to citizenship. We cannot afford to wait any longer.”
